Day 4: In Hindu tradition, Govardhan Puja is considered New Year's Day. The day is spent in gratitude to Shri Krishna for his defeat over Lord Indra. Day 5: The final day of Diwali, Bhai Dooj celebrates sibling bonds, and sisters perform a ritual of protection for their brothers. According to Hindu mythology, after Lord Krishna's victory over Narakasura, his sister welcomed him home with sweets and flowers. Traditionally brothers will visit their sister's home for a meal presenting her with a gift. The sister will initiate a puja of worship, a prayer of protection.
